The Flashback Malware is still around, and still infecting older Mac computers and some new ones too. The Malware uses a Java exploit to attack Mac OS X based computers. Apple released the Flashback Removal Tool to take care of the problem, but it wasn’t compatible with any other operating systems other than Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
Apple has now released a similar tool for Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard users to battle the Flashback Malware. The Flashback Removal Security Update gets rid of the Trojan and cleans your system. This tool also disables the Java plugin for Safari just to keep you on a safer side. Along with this tool, Apple has also released a Leopard Security Update 2012-003 that disables older versions of Adobe Flash player with security updates.
Both the Flashback Removal Tool and the Leopard Security Update is available through the Software Update utility on your Mac computer. Remember, download this if you’re still running on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and haven’t upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion.
